ASSISTANT COACH QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Certified as a teacher by the West Virginia Board of Education or holds a coaching authorization issued through the West Virginia Office of Certification, Licensure and Professional Preparation and by the State Superintendent of Schools.
- Exhibit knowledge of the assigned sport, as well as of the duties and responsibilities of an assistant coach and the ability to perform these duties.
- Specialized training in the area of the assigned.
- Good evaluations and/or recommendations from professional associates, employers.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel, and parents.
- Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, parents and community.
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director and/or Principal
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The assistant cheerleading coach shall adhere to the principles and philosophy of the middle school interscholastic athletic program and apply all applicable rules and regulations of WVSSAC.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, implement, and manage the athletic program as directed by the head coach.
- Foster a climate conducive to learning and good sportsmanship.
- Establish and maintain proper record keeping systems as directed by the head coach.
- Provide good leadership in academic and extracurricular programs.
- Promote and maintain positive student, coach, administrator, parent, and community relations.
- Follow the rules, regulations, and timelines scheduled for the sport as outlined by the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission, principal, and/or head coach.
- Practice positive public relations by communicating with parents, students, and the educational community.
- Maintain professional work habits.
- Continually upgrade coaching skills.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned by the head coach, athletic director, assistant principal, or principal
- Responsible for students, facility, and equipment.
- Manage budget.
- Follow purchasing procedures.
- Implement fundamental sports skills and sports management systems.
- Organizes strategies for teaching sports skills and sports management systems.
EVALUATION:
A minimum of one evaluation per coach's contract period is required per year. A minimum of two observations are required for each evaluation. The principal, assistance principal or the athletic director shall share the evaluation with the coach during a scheduled conference and within a four-week period at the conclusion of each sport's season as defined by WV Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC). The coach has the right to include a written statement as an addendum to the evaluation. The coach shall sign the evaluation form denoting that the supervisor has reviewed the evaluation with him or her and that he/she has received a copy of the evaluation. The signature shall not imply concurrence with the findings. All evaluations and observations will be submitted to the central office.
TERM: To begin the 2019-2020 school year. The Athletic Seasons are determined by the WV Secondary School Activities Commission.
